Fenwick Island Lighthouse Station

The Ocean City Life-Saving Station
Fenwick Island Lighthouse is located at the southernmost end of Delaware, United States, on the Delaware/Maryland border. It is one of the best historic attractions of the country, holding a glorious history.

Automated in 1940, this historic building was built on an isolated peninsula in the southernmost portion of Delaware at the Maryland state line, which is 87 feet tall, brick, with a central cast iron spiral staircase, and equipped with a third-order Fresnel lens.

Although, the Lighthouse was completed on December 29, 1858, it would not be lit until August 1, 1859. In 1978, it was again decommissioned and remained dark for several years. But later due to public movement for saving its identity, the ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the State of Delaware. This way finally in 1982, the Lighthouse became the part of Delaware and was also relit.

Today, the scenario has changed and the lighthouse is no more alone, it is ideally surrounded by many houses and businesses and also has become a major tourist attraction for visitors.
